Let Food Be thy Medicine

Hippocrates said, “Let Food Be thy Medicine.” I truly believe that with every fiber of my being. Speaking of Fiber let’s talk about it.

My inspiration for this post came to me after I went to the Doctor to have my yearly physical. I LOVE my doctor. She is so REAL, down to earth, a wealth of knowledge, incredibly kind and patient. Everything you would want in a Doctor. Once we had our conversation about life in general she went over my results, I was blown away. My Cholesterol went down 22 points from the previous year. My good Cholesterol down 6 points, my Triglycerides down 20 points and lastly my LDL (bad cholesterol) down 12 points. I know I have to attribute that to adding fiber into my diet and I did that with GG Crackers.

My boyfriend and I eat well and then we have our cheat days. As one of my favorite bloggers, Lauryn Evarts of the The Skinny Confidential says, “you balance your health like a check book.” That’s how I choose to live my life with food, Balance.

In my upcoming posts I’m going to share my go to recipes for some healthy dinners that hopefully you will love and incorporate into your dinner rotation. But first some tips and tricks and a typical day of what I’ve been eating to get results.

Scrambled eggs, Avocado spread on top of a GG Crackers  with Crushed Red Pepper Flakes

Directions for Avocado Spread:

2 Whole Avocado (depending on how many people, 1 per person) Olive Oil, 1 garlic clove minced, juice of 1 lime wedge or lemon, mash that together till it looks like guacamole.

Your body metabolizes avocado so quickly and it’s a healthy fat, don’t be scared of the fat content, your body needs fats.

Tip: Make sure your Olive Oil is Cold Pressed

Benefit of Cold Pressed Olive Oil: “Coldpressed olive oil is extracted from fresh olives by mechanical means at a temperature of 81 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the Olive Oil Source. Coldpressed virgin olive oil contains high amounts of monounsaturated fatty acids, polyphenols and antioxidants that provide many health benefits.”

Heat extracts all of the benefits from Olive oil, so keep an eye out.

Tuna on spinach with cucumber (super Hydrating) grape tomatoes, broccoli , sprinkle on Ground Turmeric (cancer fighting properties), cayenne pepper speeds up metabolism and for the dressing i used Olive Oil & Balasmic. A side of cottage cheese.

Broccoli is a great choice for a weight loss diet because it’s so low in calories, but that’s not the only benefit you’ll gain. It’s packed with essential nutrients and contains fiber, which contributes to satiety. Several micronutrients in broccoli are known to support weight loss, and its phytochemicals show potential for breaking down fats.

Salad: Spinach, tomato, cucumber, broccoli, any type of  healthy dressing

I hope this post was full of value and I can’t wait to share more tips and tricks and recipes in the weeks to come. Don’t worry I haven’t forgotten the roots of this blog which is fashion but if you look and feel good then it makes shopping so much more fun.

Until next time, as always, thank you so much for stopping by.

He will win you over in the end because at the root of his existence is a BIG heart. An immigrant who is living the AMERICAN DREAM. Tim Ferriss, I love this guy. So smart, self aware and asks all the right questions. My favorite episode is #124 with Jamie Foxx.

“Tim Ferriss is a self-experimenter and bestselling author, best known for The 4-Hour Workweek, which has been translated into 40+ languages. Newsweek calls him “the world’s best human guinea pig,” and The New York Times calls him “a cross between Jack Welch and a Buddhist monk.” In this show, he deconstructs world-class performers from eclectic areas (investing, chess, pro sports, etc.), digging deep to find the tools, tactics, and tricks that listeners can use.”

Summer Reading List

Image result for the husband's secret

The Husband’s Secret

This book is a page turner and a must read for the summer! I’ve read online that Blake Lively is set to play the main character and since then while reading the book I can completely envision her doing so.

“Imagine your husband wrote you a letter, to be opened after his death. Imagine, too, that the letter contains his deepest, darkest secret—something with the potential to destroy not only the life you built together, but the lives of others as well. And then imagine that you stumble across that letter while your husband is still very much alive…”

“Cecilia Fitzpatrick has achieved it all—she’s an incredibly successful businesswoman, a pillar of her small community, and a devoted wife and mother. But that letter is about to change everything—and not just for her. There are other women who barely know Cecilia—or each other—but they, too, are about to feel the earth-shattering repercussions of her husband’s secret.”

The Girl Code book

I plan on reading this book next. I am constantly looking for books that will inspire me to be the best version of myself, provide me with knowledge for growth and words to keep moving forward. This is definitely one of those books.

“Girl Code is a roadmap for female entrepreneurs, professional women, “side hustlers” (those with a day job plus a part-time small business), and anyone in between. This book won’t teach you how to build a multimillion-dollar company. It won’t teach you about systems or finance. But it will teach you how to build confidence in yourself, reconnect with your “why,” eradicate jealousy, and ultimately learn the power of connection. Because at the end of the day, that’s what life and business are all about.”

I’ve only started reading this a couple of weeks ago but I’m addicted. You can feel Tony’s energy within the pages as your reading the book and it’s so inspiring that you can’t put it down. If you need guidance of any kind I would say that Tony has you covered.

What Remains

I bought this book on my iPad when Carole first appeared on the NYC housewives. She writes so beautifully and the fact that the Kennedy’s are a part of this story makes it’s so compelling to read. I consider the Kennedy’s, American’s version of Royalty.

A stunning, tragic memoir about John F. Kennedy Jr., his wife Carolyn Bissett, and his cousin Anthony Radziwill, by Radziwill’s widow, now a star of The Real Housewives of New York.

What Remains is a vivid and haunting memoir about a girl from a working-class town who becomes an award-winning television producer and marries a prince, Anthony Radziwill. Carole grew up in a small suburb with a large, eccentric cast of characters. At nineteen, she struck out for New York City to find a different life. Her career at ABC News led her to the refugee camps of Cambodia, to a bunker in Tel Aviv, and to the scene of the Menendez murders. Her marriage led her into the old world of European nobility and the newer world of American aristocracy.

The Girl Before by J.P. Delaney
I decided to read “The Girl Before” because my mom read it and absolutely loved it (she finished it in a day) and we have very similar reading tastes! I did finish it quickly (it is a page-turner) however by the end of the novel I was left wanting more. The book is a cross between Gone Girl and Fifty Shades of Grey – if you liked those two books, then you will probably love this one. My main issue with the novel was that the protagonists, both women, kept making stupid decisions. Some of their behavior was just outright ridiculous – I wanted to grab them by the shoulders and shake them! The book alternates between the perspectives of Emma (Before) and Jane (After) as they move into a new apartment – a very beautiful but strange apartment owned by the handsome and mysterious Edward Montford (who is very similar to Christian Grey in Fifty Shades of Grey). Overall it was very entertaining and worth the read! – Southern Curls and Pearls

This book review was written by Southern Curls and Pearls , she said it just perfectly so I had to share.

I hope you all have an amazing day and pick up a book this summer to read on those lazy days by the pool.

Hello Sunshine

Straw Hat Here , Sunless Tanner (my holy grail product)

Florida, the place of my birth.

I crave it sometimes and when the cravings get intense I hop on a plane or as most recently hopped into my car and made my way down from Charlottesville to the Sunshine State.

I arrived to find my niece and nephews chasing each other about on the back porch with sparklers in their hands, full of excitement for the 4th of July. The lake that sits in my parents backyard is a great host in the evening where the sunsets are so beautiful and can be watched easily with a glass of Rose’ in hand; feeling the warmth of the sun on your face as it fades away into the night.

The next day the little ones and I made our way down to the pool, where laughter ensues and games of marco/polo, who can dive the deepest, swim like a mermaid, dive for treasures were played endlessly and I relish in all of it. Being their Aunt is one of my greatest joys. I so envy their energy that never seems to run out. My niece has quite the imagination, always thinking of ways to be creative to play in her days of summer and reminding me to bend down and see things from her perspective. She said, “Tiff, you gotta see this view!”

I spent a week with my mother, my sisters and their children and it was just what I needed to recharge, feel connected and it helped center me for all the right reasons.

I hope you all are having a great week so far! Tomorrow is Friday, I am so ready! As always Thank you so much for stopping by.

Be Glad of Life

I bought this card 7 years ago for this quote, it’s the first thing I see when I wake and the last before I go to sleep. I just think it’s such a beautiful reminder to wake up with a grateful heart, it can really help set the tone for the entire day.

LIVE….Live well, travel, LOVE with all your heart, takes pictures and frame those  moments in your mind that in time will remind of a LIFE well lived. Do not be afraid to go for what you want in life. Do not settle and do not compare your life to others. Being you is unique enough.

Another quote that I always come back to is one by Steve Jobs:

“Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to LOSE. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your HEART.”

I started this blog with the intention to Empower you, Inspire you and to remind you that being alive is something to be grateful for. You will find happiness in your relationships, friendships, family and whatever Faith you belong to. As much as my passion for fashion fuels this blog that is not where my happiness comes from. My happiness comes from within, God has blessed my life many times over. Trust me, with the sweet comes the sour, I have gained this knowledge through my own personal pain that life has shown me and with that pain comes personal growth. You will be pushed out of your comfort zone and do things you thought you never possible. I promise, the pain won’t last forever….nothing does. Eventually time moves us all along. As is evident because today is my 32nd birthday.

I must admit, I am truly the happiest I have ever been.  Thank you for letting me chime in and let you see a side of me that my dearest friends know all to well.

Easter makes me nostalgic.

Easter is my favorite time of year. Mostly for the religious aspect. I think it’s all the changes you start to see right in front of you. Everything is coming back to life, no coincidence I’m sure, that this is how life works 😉 Trees and plants starting to bloom, bumble bees doing a dance in flight, birds chirping, bunnies hopping, children laughing as they run after their colored eggs on Easter Sunday.  My Birthday is also in April so that makes it fun! My mother asking if we want to watch Steel Magnolias again for the 2902930390202 time, my sisters and I favorite movie of all time. Yes, please. It’s just so special. A love of excitement and so much love.

One of my fondest memories on Easter when I was growing up was when my Mother would make her ” Easter Bunny Cake”. It’s my absolute favorite part of Easter. She would bake it and then let her girls decorate it and now her grandchildren get in on the fun.

Above are some dresses I am in Love with right now that would look fabulous on Easter Sunday or any day coming up this summer.

I hope your having a great week, it’s almost Friday, thank heavens.

White Out

Kayla Itsines Workout App , Lose It Weight App , Flat Tummy Tea ,

Beauty Greens Here

I got a lot of feedback on this swimsuit and wanted to throw it up on the blog for you all quickly. I ordered a size Large for size reference, the fit is great , the texture feels rich , not thin and cheap. It has a very 60’s vibe to it. Which I love, think Bridgette Bardot.  It’s from Target and for a steal of $40. Yes, please add to cart. Haha.

I am going on a cruise soon with my girlfriends and I can not wait to rock this swimsuit there, throw on some cute jean shorts and a floppy hat and you are good to go!

In addition to buying swimsuits I have put a lot of effort into becoming bikini ready by hitting the gym hard using the This workout app, I can not say enough good things about it. When I go to the gym (or home, outside) I have a plan and it will kick your butt and you will start to see a difference in your body. The app is incredible. Every week a new workout plan, A meal plan (with a grocery list) i highly recommend it.

Also the Flat Tummy Tea I drink daily and use the cleanse 2x a week. Plus all of my normal vitamin regimen. Also added drinking the Beauty greens daily. Check those out, amazing stuff.

Have a great Friday and wonderful weekend!

From The Inside Out

As I was eating my spinach salad this afternoon and thinking how much I love eating healthy because it makes me feel so GOOD! You know when you go to the gym it makes you want to eat better because you just worked your butt off and you don’t want to ruin it. I love that feeling.

How you feel on the inside will reflect on the outside. Just as in the picture above happiness will always find you by taking care of your body. I believe a big part of that comes from what we eat. It fuels our bodies to LIVE to do the things we love.

So I did a little research on the  Health Benefits of Spinach and let’s just say I now want spinach on the daily and hopefully you will too!

So here are the Benefits:

Low in fat and even lower in cholesterol, spinach is high in niacin and zinc, as well as protein, fiber, vitamins A, C, E and K, thiamin, vitamin B6, folate, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, copper, and manganese. In other word, it’s loaded with good things for every part of your body!

Abundant flavonoids in spinach act as antioxidants to keep cholesterol from oxidizing and protect your body from free radicals, particularly in the colon. The folate in spinach is good for your healthy cardiovascular system, and magnesium helps lower high blood pressure. Studies also have shown that spinach helps maintain your vigorous brain function, memory and mental clarity.

I started with Spinach, Avocado (half), cucumber, tuna, balsamic and olive oil. With  Red pepper chili flakes, turmeric powder, Chia seeds! So Filling, so good for you.

You have to get in the mind set that your body will carry you through to your last breath so you need to fuel it properly. Take care of it, give your body the things it needs to do the things you love. Plus stacking the odds in your favor doesn’t hurt anyone. It’s better to pay now for preventive care than to pay when you get diagnosed with some type of cancer.

Ok, enough with the heavy…….I just get so passionate about this subject. GET your greens in peeps.

Chia Seeds ,Turmeric Powder , Red Pepper Flakes

Read This for All Benefits of Turmeric – It’s God’s Gift to earth, it’s anti-aging properties, immune boosting , antioxidants power is unlike anything else.

As always Thank You for taking the time to stop by and reading my page, which I hope provides a few good tips for being the BEST you can be.

Brooklyn somehow has grown on me recently. I was a ride or die Manhattan girl (still am) but I have grown a new appreciation for this borough. Maybe because some of the best views of the City itself are seen from this side of the Hudson or the new places to have Brunch are almost as cute as my all time favorite Sara Beth’s. That Brooklyn Bridge though…. I have so many memories that I treasure that have happened on that Bridge. Running, walking, riding over that bridge in a cab with my mom a few different times at night before wondering through the city. The Bridges in New York are so grand. I literally get excited as I am crossing over them into city that never sleeps. They are just breathtaking. I’m constantly preserving things like this in my memory bank to revisit my beloved city when I am not there.

Preserve…….that’s exactly what I did as I said goodnight to this City that stole my heart the day I visited here when I was 13 years old.

Eventually that dream of my 13 year old self came true at 25 years old and I eventually Lived here, Loved here, Worked here, and Found myself here.

Fall Wedding in Brooklyn

Mr. and Mrs. Evan and Cheryl McGoff

A Love that will go far beyond this lifetime. #truelove

Bride wore a Dress by: Nicole Miller

Outfit Details:

Dress Exact Dress HereSimilar Here , LOVE this one , Jessica Simpson Nude Pumps , Earrings , Bracelet

Just married in…BROOKLYN, NEW YORK. It was the kind of wedding that made you believe in Love. Two people that knew for certain that this was their person. Twinkling lights sparkled over the guests as they toasted with champagne to the New Mr. and Mrs. McGoff. My dear friends are very much in Love and finally made it official. With their touches of a new age Wedding and somehow tradition sneaking in now and again as it does. It went off beautifully. Food was delicious, the drinks were flowing and the music seemed as if it would never stop with a good time.

The dress I wore was one of my favorite dresses. Again, you know what label I’m going to say….KEEPSAKE. Yup, keepsake again. The material of this dress feels rich, with it’s satin, polyester texture and it’s Fit and Flare silhouette, and pockets. Gotta love pockets. The scallop trim on top with it’s peek-a-boo opening in the middle was what drew my attention to this dress. Can we talk about this color scheme. Pale, blush pink with hints of all my favorite colors of Fall, hunter green, maroon. I just love it.

Thanks for stopping by! Hope your having a great week!
